Terms and Regulations

THAMKRABOK MONASTERY

[DETOXIFICATION AND REHABILITATION CENTER]

TERMS AND REGULATIONS

I agree to accept the following terms and regulations during the full period of my stay at THAMKRABOK MONASTERY:

1. Length of stay

The detoxification process lasts a minimum of 7 days.

The maximum stay in THAMKRABOK MONASTERY for detoxification is limited to 28 days in total. During this time I will live in The Hey (the treatment compound of the Monastery).

(Exceptions to the minimum or maximum length of stay require the agreement of the senior monk in charge).

2. Fees and donations

The detoxification and the lodging are free.

Donations are welcome. They have to be put in an envelope with the name and the sum on it and put into one of the donation-boxes.

3. Personal belongings and money

Having come here by my own, I will convert an adequate sum of my money into "coupons", equivalent to Baht, which serve as currency to pay for food and other daily necessities (water, soft drinks, cigarettes etc.) within the detoxification area.

I am responsible for my own personal spending and budget.

My passport, money above that required for "coupons", and personal belongings must be deposited at the Reception Office. A receipt will be given.

If I have come through an organization, I will follow the instructions agreed between that organization, Thamkrabok and myself.

4. Admission to the treatment

The detox treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or after a recent operation.

It is a requirement before treatment that alcoholics and problem drinkers refrain from all alcohol, preferably under medical supervision, for at least 7 day before arriving at Thamkrabok.

Before starting with the treatment, I will attend the mandatory ceremony of Sajja. I will take the sacred vow not to consume, to encourage or to promote alcohol or drugs of any kind in the future. Before taking Sajja I will be informed about the content, the importance and the form of this ceremony.

If I relapse I will not be accepted for a second treatment in THAMKRABOK MONASTERY.

5. Rules and sanctions

I will respect the rules of THAMKRABOK MONASTERY:

    a) I will not smuggle in, procure, consume or promote any kind of drugs, alcohol or medicine during the full length of my stay.

    b) I will wear the clothing provided by THAMKRABOK MONASTERY.

    c) I will attend the mandatory parts of the 7 day detoxification, such as 'vomiting' on at least the first 5 days, taking steam baths (sauna) every day, taking the herbal pills and participating in the meditation sessions.

    d) I will respect and follow the orders given by the personnel within the detoxification area.

    e) I will be responsible for the cleanliness of my clothes as well as for the lodging.

    f) To walk or work outside The Hey is only permitted when a monk or novice accompanies me.

In the case of violation of these rules or of any delinquent behavior, THAMKRABOK MONASTERY has the full right of:

Journey

How to get to Thamkrabok Monastery:-

  • A Public Taxi from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport (Platform of Passenger Terminal on the 1st Floor, Gates 4 and 7) to Thamkrabok which costs about 1500 Baht. (See and print Taxi directions in Thai here).
  • If you are not familiar with Thailand it is recommended that you take the monastery’s airport collection service which will meet you in the Arrivals Hall and take you directly to Thamkrabok.   Please contact info@thamkrabok-monastery.org to arrange this service which costs 2500 Baht.
  • From Bangkok's bus station Mawchit there is a bus to Lopburi. Ask the driver to stop at Thamkrabok. The journey takes between 2 and 3 hours. (Costs: about 100 Baht)
  • The bus-ride between Saraburi and Thamkrabok takes about 20 minutes. The bus stops right beside the entrance to the monastery.
  • From the entrance you will go straight on and then turn right. The walk to the reception will take you about 10 minutes. Sometimes there is a small taxi, which will bring you there for 20 Baht.

Please get in touch with us before you come to Thamkrabok.

Coming through private organisations: There are a number of organisations, which are independent from the monastery, that can facilitate the journey and detoxification at Thamkrabok.
